Poetry

Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden

The screeching plastic hose

peeked under the rock altar

feigned sublimity

in a manmade, handmade green

playing God to fulfill need.

A quiet need—

the age of grime and reason

the fury contrast

the whir of trucks and car horns

flipping birds to bird’s whistle.
